On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Thessaloniki PhotoBiennale festival, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography co-organises with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art an honorary event dedicated to Aris Georgiou on Wednesday 17 October 2018 at 19:30 at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art.
In 1988 the multi-faceted photographer, architect and artist Aris Georgiou initiated the Photosynkyria, Thessaloniki International Festival of Photography. In the 1990s, the annual festival was established as a major international crossroads for the domestic and international scene, providing a key impetus to Greek photography and turning Thessaloniki into an informal capital of photography in Greece. Following on the creative course of the festival, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography was founded in 1998, with Georgiou as its first director.
Sakis Serefas (author), Sakis Papadimitriou (composer) and Hercules Papaioannou (director of Thessaloniki Museum of Photography) discuss about the contribution of Aris Georgiou for the organisation of Photosynkyria (subsequently titled as PhotoBiennale). The event will be co-ordinated by the director of Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Thouli Misirloglou.
